Demavand is a dormant stratovolcano in the Elburs mountain range, in northern Iran. The height is 5,671 meters above sea level. Demavand is the highest point in Iran and the entire Middle East, and it is also the tallest volcano in Asia. Demavand is one of the main symbols of Iran, and many Persian legends tell about it. Some of the magicians state that the evil spirit Bivarasb was imprisoned inside this mountain and that the smoke constantly rising from its top is the prisoner's breath.

Due to the correct shape of the volcanic pyramid, Demavend can be climbed from any side, the most popular and direct route is the Southern one. This route is the most convenient trail in terms of steepness, so our ascent will be done from the South. The route is not difficult technically, but it requires endurance and preparation for high altitude.
